We’ve ALL been there: someone says they’re gonna get back to you by day X, and they don’t. Two days later, and still no word from them… what do you do??
On the one hand, you want to follow up, because WTF – they said they’d get back to me, and they didn’t! And I’m on pins and needles here waiting to find out if I got the job or not!
On the other, you’re scared to follow up because you don’t want to be annoying… but you worry that if you don’t, you’ll never hear back from them and the opportunity will pass you by. *anxiety intensifies*
The bad news: this happens ALLLLLL the time in business. The good news: We’re here to help 🙂
First of all, you need to understand that you are NOT being annoying by following up – in fact, you’re probably being helpful! When people don’t follow up, it’s very rarely because they’re trying to blow you off. It’s almost always just that they’re busy and forgot- so following up with a little reminder is actually helpful, and they’ll appreciate it. It also shows that you’re punctual, that you respect their time AND that you really want to work with them.
Second, use Matt’s little hack in the video for using calendar reminders to help you follow up. It’s a great way to take all the pressure off both you and the person you’re reaching out to. Try it and let us know how it works for you!
